Iain studied at the Royal College of Music in London and has been the resident harpist at the 5 star Balmoral Hotel,Edinburgh for the last 17 years.The Balmoral won the AA Hotel of the Year for Scotland and Ireland in 2007/8.You can come and hear him playing concert harp live for guests having a champagne afternoon tea in the atmospheric Palm Court.Check dates with Iain as it is often necessary to book in advance.

Iain plays two types of harp: the celtic harp(clarsach) and the concert harp.    This lets him play a wide range of music from Scottish love songs,to well-known classical favourites or modern love songs or film themes.Iain can also provide the music for hymns or songs during your ceremony.

Silverstrings flute and harp duo

Iain Hood and Sue Hughes formed the Silverstrings flute and harp duo over 10 years ago.They have played at many amazing venues; from ruined castles and palaces to 5 star hotels such as Gleneagles and Turnberry.

For that Celtic touch silver strings use flute and celtic harp (clarsach) , and for more traditional classical melodies or modern love songs use flute and concert harp.

In some venues such as ruined castles it is celtic harp that will be used as concert harps can't go up spiral staircases! Contact Iain if there is a favourite song you really want and he will check if it can be adapted for harp.
